Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang’s wife Krishna Kumari Rai resigns as MLA


Sikkim News: Krishna Kumari Rai, wife of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, resigned from the assembly on Thursday, a day after taking oath. This information was given in a notification. She had recently won the Namchi-Singhithang assembly seat by defeating Bimal Rai of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in the assembly elections.

The speaker of the assembly accepted the resignation

Sikkim Assembly Secretary Lalit Kumar Gurung said Speaker MN Sherpa has accepted Kumari’s resignation. Tamang, who was in Arunachal Pradesh to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his counterpart Pema Khandu, said in a Facebook post, “Regarding the news of my wife’s resignation… I would like to inform the dear and respected people of Sikkim that she has vacated her seat in line with the unanimous decision of the party, giving priority to the welfare and objectives of the party.”

CM told why he contested the election?

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said in the post, “It is important to note that at the request of the SKM party’s parliamentary committee, she contested the election for the welfare of our party. On behalf of our party, as president, I express my heartfelt gratitude to her for her dedication and unwavering support.”

She had won by more than 5 thousand votes

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) chief said the party is committed to giving opportunities to genuine and dedicated functionaries to serve the people of Sikkim and in the case of Namchi-Singhithang constituency too, the residents will get a dedicated and genuine MLA who will serve their interests. Krishna Kumari Rai, who was contesting the assembly elections for the first time, won by a margin of 5,302 votes. She got 71.6 per cent votes.
